This week is all about me, I bet you're over the moon about that...
Last week saw a return to tournament golf for me and three rounds in the one week. I haven't done that since returning to Scotland! What I have learned since starting my first club professional's job, is that it is very easy to put the clubs away and become a bit of an administrator at times. Yes I love my coaching and I have my own business to keep on top of, but just as importantly I am a golf professional and that means I should be out on the course more often. I tell all my lesson clients to practice more, so time for me to practice what I preach!
Golf Plan Pro-Captain Qualifier
The Captain, Iain Harrison, and I travelled west last week to compete in the Golf Plan Pro-Captain Qualifier at Haggs Castle Golf Club. Having previously played a practice round on the Wednesday our competitive round got off to a very steady start, with a one under par front nine, we bombarded the back half with a couple of birdies before approaching the par four 16th. At the time i was having a bit of a Seve moment from the trees when BANG! Captain fantastic hit an outstanding pitch straight into the hole (it doesn't matter if it might have ended up in the bunker had it not hit the flag!) for a birdie nett eagle.
Five under par with another solid par at 17 from our glorious Captain it was my turn to take advantage of the long par five 18th hole. Iain had a word in my ear and told me that he was knackered and this one was "down to you young man" after my best of the day off the tee, I hit a lovely 9-iron approach into the centre of the green only to be caught out with some back spin off the front of the green... No troubles you would think! Unfortunately for us a certain member of the professional team proceeded to three putt the green for a par for a sad finish to the round. What happened from there will stick with me for life! Six under par goes to the final event in Turkey all expenses paid... Wonderful!
Drumpellier Pro-Am
After a shaky night's sleep with dreams full of sunshine and beer, I went off to compete at the Drumpellier Pro-Am last Saturday. This was only my third Pro-Am of the year but I felt OK having played the day before. I was happy to record a two under par 69 which finished in a tie for 10th. Overall a good week's golf with some decent play at times, happy golfer!
Our week at Linlithgow...
Sunday was a busy day at the club with the tee times being booked due to the good weather and also for our Blue Tee Junior Event. This was an opportunity for some of the kids associated with the club (parents or family of members) to come along and play our shortened blue tee four hole course. What a joy it was to walk along and mark the cards for these future golfers. It is inspiring to watch children as young as seven so passionate about our wonderful game, well done to Stephen Marshall our Junior Convener for your orginisation, I am sure our club is in safe hands. If you have any family members who are eight years old and above, please contact me here for more information regarding our new junior membership initiative, children can now join our club from a younger age and for as little as £25 for the year!
Lynx Fitting Day
Wednesday, 16 October sees another fitting day at Linlithgow and we are happy to host the Lynx fitting team again this year after the success of previous fitting days.
