Greetings from Kenny Monaghan
Linlithgow Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

So Wimbledon is here which is normally an indication that the weather should be pretty decent... Fingers crossed our summer is starting this week!

Bunker Proposals

We have had a great week at Linlithgow and as most of you will now be aware we as a club have spoken and the decision has been made to go forward as a club and start the work on our new bunker proposal. As the new Club Professional I must say how great it was to watch so many of you stand up to vote and put the ball in motion for us to move forward as a progressive golf club. A huge well done must go to Alan Robertson and Grant Peters for all there tremendous work over the last few months gathering information, meeting with contractors and architects and of course for putting together last Thursday's presentation. It was great to see all your hard work being supported by the members. Thursday's presentation did not surprise me in anyway as I know how hard both of you work. What did catch me off guard though was getting the chance to see Grant after he has washed, put on some fresh clothes and put some gel in his hair, doesn't he scrub up well!

The vote was unanimous and the plans are now in place for the bunker project to get underway this coming October. Well done to you all!

Weekend Results

Last weekend saw another busy weekend at the club with our weekly member's medal on Saturday (144 players) and our Open Betterball event being played on Sunday (88 players). It was great to hear so many positive comments regarding the course from our members and guests from our neighbouring clubs. Considering the torrential rain throughout the night and the downpours during the Sunday's event, the course held up fantastically. On Sunday we had four late entrants from one of the other local clubs in the area who "only came along because their course was flooded" just goes to show what a great maintenance programme can do to improve playing conditions.

Bathgate Pro-Am

I actually played myself last Saturday in the Bathgate Pro-Am, which was my second event of the season. I am afraid to report that a lack of ability, course knowledge and a terrible short game resulted in a shocking performance. Even for us golf professionals, no practice and a quick prayer before you tee off will never be enough to compete.

Pro's DayProfessional's Day

There was a bit of confusion in the shop over the weekend regarding the format for my upcoming Professional's Day on Saturday, 25 July. This year's event is a two man team event, betterball format. All players will play their own ball and will NOT play alternate shots. The plans are coming along nicely and I am sure we are all set for a fantastic day! If you are interested in a tee time, please contact me here. As tee times will not be available online.
