Well what a golfing weekend that was!
I am sure many of you enjoyed the weekend show from Jordan Speith as he cruised to victory at Augusta National and lift his first green jacket. If we didn't know much about him already we certainly should by now. What a joy it was to watch such a young boy (21), blow the field away with such a convincing display. Well done to Jordan, I am sure this will be the start of a very successful major career!
Augusta National may have played host to the best golfers in the world last weekend, but our very own Linlithgow GC takes claim to holding the biggest event in the world's golfing calendar with our very successful club Open Day. I am extremely happy to report that we had a great day. A special well done goes out to all the committee and of course, Grant and his team for getting the course in excellent condition. We had a number of new members join us this year, a couple of social outings booked for later in the year and the clubhouse was filled all afternoon. A big round of applause to all the members who got involved and brought some of their friends and family along to participate in our "bring a friend to golf day". I heard a number of positive compliments throughout the day despite the wet start to the day. The clubhouse was full all Sunday afternoon and these special days at our club really do make a huge difference to the atmosphere around the club and it is great to feel the buzz as we hit the start of the season.
Congratulations to our very own club member Andy Arbuckle for winning the event on the day, fingers crossed we grow on our success of last Sunday's event. I will look at bringing another one around for the week of the Open Championship the next major on the calander!
Last week also saw the start of my ladies' coaching programme this season. I have two, six week classes running this term and class number one got started on Friday. Well done to all the ladies who took part! I do have a second class starting today from 5pm through to 6pm and we have a couple of spaces left if anyone is interested.
