It's finally here, the start of the golf season.....The Masters! I am sure many of you are just as excited as I am to watch the Masters coverage this coming weekend and with the return of Tiger Woods. I am sure there will be a few more people tuning in to see what excuses he can come up with for this particular tournament.
We had our own season opener at Linlithgow last Saturday with a total of 177 golfers playing in our "opening day medal". With the great turnout came a number of great scores, none more so than a nett 65 from our very own Kenny Ambrose JNR. Well done to Kenny for a great start to the season and of course for having such a great first name!
I also got myself involved in opening day this year and I had the pleasure of joining our club captain Iain Harrison and member Ryan Leslie for the morning. If my golf game wasn't rusty enough, I also had the "luxury" of listening to our wonderful captain highlighting some of my golfing weaknesses throughout my round. To think that I got out my bed for this at 5am has thrown some serious doubt at some of my life decisions. Thankfully though I can take a laugh at myself and between the three of us we had a right good laugh going round. A big round of applause to our Course Manager Grant Peters and his team for the great work they have done over the winter season there were a number of great reviews from our members throughout the day. I personally thought that the course was in great condition and in particular the new 5th green was a joy to putt on. As the 3rd game out on Saturday morning, I am unofficially claiming the first ever tournament birdie at that hole (TBC). The captain politely pointed out shortly after "if you get sacked tomorrow Kenny, at least no one can take your birdie away from you, let's hope your remembered for more than that!" Needless to say that was my last birdie of the day.
Opening day Beat The Pro Results
Thanks to the 147 people who took my challenge to Beat the Pro, after a very mediocre shot to 35ft I am happy to announce that a total of 98 people beat my shot at the 17th. On Wednesday morning our very own independant club secretary Gary helped draw the winners they are as follows: Kevin Aitken; Jim Tucker; Dennis Watson; Craig Hastie and Stuart Rafferty.
You have all received the grand total of £29.40 which I have credited to your account in the shop.
I hope you have all remembered our "bring a friend to golf day" this coming Sunday, 12 April. Our online booking system is open for you and your free guest. Please also remember my "Masters green shirt" individual Stableford event that you are all invited to participate in. For a small £5 entry fee you can enjoy a free roll and coffee/tea before or after your round. There will also be prizes available to the successful winners. My plan is to have a small prize giving in the clubhouse around 7pm (depending on numbers). I hope as many of you as possible can hang around for the prize giving and watch the final round of the Masters coverage in the clubhouse. For more information please click here to get in touch.
My wife finally gave birth to our son Archie last Wednesday afternoon. I am happy to confirm that both mother and son are keeping well, big sister Anna is enjoying her new duties and that father is managing approximately two hours sleep per night! If you hear me snoring in the shop feel free to give me an elbow next time you are in!
