We continue to be here every day at the pro shop, checking you in and looking after everyone where possible. We have been a little run off our feet, so much so I am sporting a lovely cold sore this week due to be a little run down, I'm only three weeks back at work!

Club News

Friday 29th June was of course our return to golf, we also had the pleasure of Club Captain George Clelland finally getting his opening tee shot away to officially kick start the golf season!

Unfortunately it wasn't the normal opening day event but the tee shot was an absolute cracker under immense pressure.

George has been working very hard during lockdown to help here at the club, it seems he may have been practicing a little as well as not only did he hit a beautiful drive to get started, he also "thumped" his playing partner on the day Mr Colin Griffin!

Looking for someone to play with?

We have a number of new members who have come into the club over the last six months or so, some of which I have noticed don't seem to know many or any other members of the club. In normal circumstances my team and I would be making an effort to join groups up and help integrate our new members into our wonderful club.

I am reaching to ANY member new or existing looking to join up with some other golfers as you may be keen to see some new faces! If you are happy sharing your contact details with other club members, please click here and send me your name and contact details. Over the next few weeks I will build a list of our club members and send these out to everyone interested. Joining a new club can be quite daunting, we have all been there before, I am hopeful these types of initiatives make those awkward first few months a little easier.

Special news

This week we have some special news to report, two outstanding pieces of individual brilliance from Stirling Golf Course.

Firstly, a huge congratulations to Shelagh Quinn who recorded her first ever hole in one after 60 years playing the game (amazing in itself as she is still only in her 30's!) at the 6th hole.

Secondly a very rare Albatross for SGC member Grant Cook who recorded a 2 at the very first hole!

Well done to both golfers for being brilliant, Shelagh you get the honours of the picture in this week's newsletter as you are more photogenic than Grant....

Ladies news

We had some more great news within our ladies section this week as we welcomed our 100th lady member to SGC, this is an incredible number and I can't think of any other clubs with such a large playing lady membership.

Our female Professional Alyson McKechin is returning to work and eager to get started after a few months away form the club. This week she sent a welcome letter out to all the ladies and showcased some of the services availble with her here at the club, if any of you would like to chat directly with her, please click here to get in touch.

Thoughts for the course

Bad habits are a rite of passage for every golfer. Unfortunately, we don’t always grow out of them… Especially when it comes to driving. Believe it or not, smashing the ball as far as possible is as much about technique as it is, well, smashing it.

One of the most common homemade solutions for poor driving is to swing downwards onto the ball at impact. This does more harm than good. Yes, you want to hit downwards with your irons, but this is NOT the case for drivers.

Other than having a driver tailored to your swing, the easiest way to improve your driving is to strike the ball on an upwards arc. It's a mixture of a good body position, correct ball position as well as your angle of attack - three things we can help you with!
