Coaching News

Thankfully we are now allowed to return to coaching in line with government advice, our coaching is restricted to one to one lessons and around the new academy course timings. As a passionate coach I am particuarly happy about this as its great to spend time trying to help all the crazy golfers out there!

Please remember we have some amazing new facilities that have helped us to improve the quality of lesson's available. If its putting, short game, playing the academy course or playing the main golf course, we can do it all!

Looking for someone to play with?

We have a number of new members who have come into the club over the last 6 months or so, some of which I have noticed don't seem to know many or any other members of the club. In normal circumstances my team and I would be making an effort to join groups up and help integrate our new members into our wonderful club.

I am reaching to ANY member new or existing looking to join up with some other golfers as you may be keen to see some new faces! If you are happy sharing your contact details with other club members, please click here and send me your name and contact details. Over the next few weeks I will build a list of our club members and send these out to everyone interested. Joining a new club can be quite daunting, we have all been there before, I am hopeful these types of initiatives make those awkard first few months a little easier.

It starts with a UK Swing

Since our last newsletter, Rory McIlroy – the number one ranked golfer in the world – has said he “had a hunch” that September’s Ryder Cup will be postponed.

Whilst no decision has been made, the European Tour has confirmed it'll be returning 'behind closed doors' in July. The first event will be the British Masters at Close House; the first of six consecutive tournaments on British soil.

Who knows, maybe by the time the second UK Swing comes around in October – Dunhill Links, Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship – things may look a little different.

Thoughts for the course

Chipping is a fine art. It requires precision and skill, both of which may need sharpening after a few months away from the golf course. No shame in that! So, here are a couple of points to remember.

Landing Spots

Don’t focus on the hole. Instead, pick out a spot – a patch of grass on the green – to land your ball on. Consider how the slope and speed of the green, the lie of the ball and the club you choose may affect where the ball finishes after landing.

Practise makes perfect

When on the chipping green, place a towel on your landing spot (as seen in the above image) and take aim. As you get the hang of it, you can fold the towel to give yourself a smaller, more challenging target to work with.
