Welcome to this week’s newsletter content. I find myself talking about the weather a lot this winter and it’s depressing me even as I type away! Storm Brendan has caused more issues for us here at the club this last week. On the flip side, we are now on the countdown to the start of the season, it’s now only 2 months until Opening Day!

Most of us put the clubs away for the winter, this year I have probably practiced more than I have in the last 10 years, some visits to the range, plenty of sessions in the studio and I’ve also been going to the gym a lot more regularly over the last 3 months correcting a few injuries I struggle with. Now is the time you should all start to think about your game and what you need to do for this seasons, is there something we can help you with!?

Callaway MAVRIK

It's time to get excited again, its early season and the new product is already starting to arrive here at the club. The newest and arguably the most exciting for the season is the brand new Callaway MAVRIK range. We have the full range of driver, fairways and irons now all added to our fitting options here at the club. We obviously also have some of the finest and most accurate launch motor options to offer a comprehensive fitting process.

County Louth Gents Match

We have been invited to play a gents club match by County Louth Golf Club in Ireland between 20th-22nd March 2020. This invitation has come as a consequence of a relationship developed at the recent Captain/Pro Grand Final in Italy last year.

All gent members have received an email from Secretary Garry Bowman last week with approx details. Can I ask anyone who has still to express an interest to do so before 5pm on Friday 17th to allow us time to start finalising details.

Junior news

Junior Sponsorship Opportunity

2020 will see a brand new launch of our successful Kids At The Castle programme, our increasingly popular Junior Development Programme here at Stirling Golf Club. Scott and I have been working away over the last two seasons getting the local juniors, schools and town involved. This season I am playing a new launch, improved course work, engagement and events to complement the coaching programme already available. This pathway has already proved very successful with many of our smaller juniors progressing to the main course and club membership.

I am on the lookout for a potential sponsor who may be interested in supporting our programme. The ideas that I have are all to help the juniors, more classes, nice uniforms, additional events, and even the opportunity to get some less fortunate children involved in the game here at Stirling GC.

If you are a local business or even someone who is really keen to help support this plan for 2020 and beyond please get in touch. Hopefully, by now you should have noticed how are we are working trying to get junior golfers here to Stirling GC, our club is only going to benefit in the long term. It’s safe to say that the technology embedded into today’s clubs has helped us hit the ball further without swinging any harder. For some that might mean hitting the ball as far as we did before the effects of ageing started to take place, whereas for others it means booming drives 300+ yards and reaching par-5s in two.

Just imagine...

If you hit every club in your bag five to ten yards further, your tee shots will be longer and you'll have less distance remaining to the green. So, rather than standing there with a 6-iron you might now have an 8-iron in your hand, which gives you a much better chance of hitting it close.

Rainy season

Hats off to any weekday and weekend warriors out there. It’s great to see that no matter how cold or wet it is, you still venture onto the course to enjoy some time with your friends. We only have one piece of advice for you: be well equipped for what Mother Nature might throw your way!
