It turns out, I don't know it all
This week I went along to another CPD course run by the PGA at a very wet and windy Auchterarder Golf Club. As a professional in my trade and a passionate and experienced coach I think it is imperative to continue learning. I don't always agree with what’s being said but I do however try to go along with an open mind and open ears (I know they are big so shouldn't be difficult!) and look to take in as much information as possible, if it can help me get my information across to you my pupils then it’s all worth it in the end.
This week’s course was delivered by PGA Masters Professional Steven Orr and biomechanics expert Dr Rob Neal from Florida. Both have dedicated almost 10 years to learning and understanding The Art and Science of Pitching, working alongside 80 of the best PGA Tour and European Tour players to collect data, look at techniques, and gather information to see what common attributes these players possess.
|
I have seen both present a number of times now and each time I come away impressed with their knowledge and desire to find out more. I have already set the wheels in motion to see if I can test these theories out and incorporate their findings into my day to day short game lessons. If you would like to know more about these principals and improve both your pitch and finesse wedge shots, please get in touch by clicking here. I am sure there is something that you can do to get your short game sharper this off season!

Winter Coaching Packages
With the 2018 season coming to a close, it’s now time to turn our attention to improvements for next season. As a well experienced golf coach I fully understand the importance of working hard on technique through the winter "off season" months, to give the best possible chance for improvements to be made. Most club golfers underestimate the value in TRAINING and PREPARING and often come to me for a "quick fix" during the season. It very rarely has much longevity and improvement for them and is often very difficult to measure and introduce while trying to compete.
For those who are interested in a good winter coaching programme I have two offers to consider. I have two packages available as I appreciate that some people may be looking to change different things, I have however included practice time in both packages using our Indoor Swing Room and industry leading QUAD and SAMPuttLab software.

We have a beautiful indoor studio now and software that compliments each lesson as well as offers measurable feedback to enhance the learning process. The indoor practice time is seriously recommended to improve the chances of a change in technique developing faster.
Call us on 01786 464098 or click here to get in touch with some dates to get started. Both packages are available on a limited basis due to other winter offerings in the Pro Shop.
To avoid disappointment, please get in touch ASAP!

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take Mizuno for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its iconic MP-001 driver way back in 2004. The MP-001 featured a 400cc clubhead for maximum forgiveness, as well as a graphite composite crown which for the time was quite revolutionary, given the emphasis on titanium construction. It's definitely a collector's item, and is sure to be remembered with fondness. Fast-forward to the present day, and Mizuno has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of GT180. The fine-tuning system means it can be tailored to your swing down to every last detail, whilst the forged SP700 TI Face results in accelerated ball speeds, making it a driver which combines distance with accuracy to an incredibly high level. So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the GT180. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the GT180 with as much fondness as the MP-001! |
