This week we look back on a great Finals Day at the club, we look at plans for the summer holiday and inform you of some exciting products hitting the shop soon... |
Finals Day My first Finals Day at Stirling Golf Club was a brilliant day. I made the effort (inbetween work and lessons) to get out and watch some of the action. I was really impressed by the level of support given to all the players from the club members, families and fan clubs. The standard of golf was fantastic at times and a joy to watch! Congratulations once more to all the winners on the day, for those who haven't heard, the "Champion Golfers of the Year" are as follows; - Gent's Club Champion - Greg McLellan.
- Ladies Club Champion - Helen Appleby.
- Gent's Handicap Champion - Tom Moore.
- Ladies Handicap Champion - Aileen Lee.
- Gent's Senior Champion - Kenny Stewart.
- Junior Champion - Robbie Hunter.
- Junior Handicap Champion - Ross MacFarlane.

There was a large turnout for the presentation of prizes in the clubhouse which was great to see. These days are special at the club and something we should all look forward to getting involved with again next year. For those that weren't playing on the day, your preparation for next year's event starts now! We also ran an impromptu "nearest the pin" competition on the day from our new indoor studio. Part of the benefits of my new Foresight Sports Quad, is that we can play indoor simulator golf. On Saturday our competition ran on the 4th hole from Abu Dhabi National. We also have the ability to beam the live action directly from the studio through to the small bar in the clubhouse, for everyone to see. I couldn't believe how popular the event was with over 60 players taking part. Thank you to everyone who got involved on the day! |
Congratulations... You may have seen a lovely story in this week's Observer about the great charity work that took place at SGC recently. Well done to the Oates family who raised a whopping £14,000 in memory of their late family member Brian through a golf day at the club. A fantastic amount for a great cause, well done everyone!

Shop updates Over the next few weeks we should start to see a bit of a difference around the professional shop. With our incredible summer so far and moving to a bigger than anticipated club I must admit I have been chasing my tail a little this season with shop stock and supplies. Nevertheless we learn each day and planning will take more consideration going forward! Having said that I have had a busy few weeks looking forward and booking new stock for 2018 season already. From mid-July we will start to introduce our new 150 year anniversary merchandise in both ladies and men’s ranges, this will continue in store for the next 18 months as we celebrate this historic landmark as a club. As a small retailer I unfortunately can't stock every brand, size, colour and style. However I CAN DEFINITELY GET IT FOR YOU! Please let us know if there is something else that you would prefer and my team and I will do our best for you. It’s an exciting time coming up with our anniversary, please remember that I am supporting the club that supports me by giving a proportion of my club logo'd apparel sales back to the club for future developments.

It’s time to take a break... As I approach the six month mark working at Stirling Golf Club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support so far. It has been a mental few months with our shop renovations, learning new club procedures, meeting all the members, introducing new lesson programmes, a junior academy and of course dealing with the demand of lessons and club fittings in our brand new state of the art indoor golf studio. The feedback has been brilliant and I feel a real buzz around the club! It is however time for me to take a break. I am heading away on holiday with my family from Wednesday for a whole two weeks, working in the golf industry we don't really get the time to take a long break but this time I definitely need it (plus my wife told me she would kill me if I didn't). I am heading off to sunny Ibiza with my wife and two children. Mark, Scott and Alistair will all be around to help if and when required. The boys will take over the newsletter also for a few weeks while I eat too much ice cream and work on my tan!

Which bracket do you fall in? |
There’s one thing that you'll always need in abundance when playing golf and that’s balls - and plenty of them. Each golf ball we sell offers different levels of feel and performance at varying price points, meaning we have something to offer all playing preferences and budgets. |
| Bang for your buck Balls at a cheaper price point usually have one key performance benefit rather than offering a little of everything. This Callaway Warbird follows the trend by offering maximum distance with your longer clubs thanks to its aerodynamic dimples and high-energy core, giving you lots of power for little expenditure. |
| The all-rounder If you’re looking for more balanced performance through the bag but without the premium price tag, this Callaway Supersoft ball is designed to be long, straight and soft. It doesn’t spin as much as the Chrome Soft, but its low compression core helps create long, high flights that land softly. |
| Tour performance The saying 'you get what you pay for' certainly applies when it comes to golf balls. Callaway's Chrome Soft is their premium option, and it's easy to see why, with a soft urethane cover for short-game spin and a graphene-infused core that boosts ball speed and provides more iron control. |
