Hello golfers, The season is now in full flow and even your favourite Golf Professional made his tournament debut for the 2017 season! I am now into my third season as Club Professional at Linlithgow Golf Club and although I have been a Professional for 15 years, my current role has been all about managing time. Teaching, club fittings, retailing, junior academies, club council duties, managing a business, whilst also helping to look after my two young kids... I really don't get much time to play the game I love anymore. I always swore I would never fall into the stereo type of the Club Pro, but I can totally see why it’s so hard for many out there. One things for sure, this game is hard to play without much practice! I made my debut for the season at Bothwell Castle on Sunday, playing in the Annual Charity Pro-Am. Bothwell has a big membership and manages to successfully organise one of the biggest Pro-Ams of the year with 42 teams and Professionals competing. My game was nervy to say the least and in particular my iron/wedge play and distance control. I managed to score 71 (+1) which got me a share of 14th place. This week I am travelling to Panmure Golf Club (Wednesday) and then Royal Aberdeen (Friday) to compete in two more Pro-Ams. It sounds like a lot, but looking at the rest of the tournament schedule this might be the last I manage to get to before the end of the season....it was fun while it lasted being a golfer again. |
