Hello golfers,
Good day from a very wet and dull Prague! With the end of the Linlithgow GC golfing season coming last Saturday, I finally got the chance to sneak away with my family for a week's holiday. Now, in case you were thinking that I was daft enough to book a sunshine holiday to Prague, think again. My oldest brother Nicky and his family have lived abroad for around 12 years and they have recently moved to this wonderful city. I was hoping for something a little bit milder than back home, but so far things seem to be the same, zero sunshine and lots of rain. My two kids are having a great time though playing with their cousins which is the main thing.
We have lots to look forward to this coming "off-season" at LGC with stage two of the bunker programme getting prepared and about to get underway. Have you paid your levy yet? We also have the annual end of season prize giving nights before we come round to our Christmas party season. Have any of you out there thought about hosting any events over the festive period? Where better to host, than your local HOME golf club?
Closing Day Results
Well done to Greig Howie who ended the season on a particular high after winning the Closing Day Stableford Competition. I take my hat off to everyone who went and battled the elements last Saturday as it really was a day for the ducks and certainly not golfing. I tried my hardest to be as positive as possible to everyone who was undecided about going, sorry for any little white lies whilst trying to tempt you all out to play. Winners on the day were as follows:
Division One - First place - G. Scott (37 points, better back 9), second place - K. Thomson (37 points) and in third place - D. Pudney (35 points).
Division Two - First place - G. Howie (38 points) and in second place - M. Lavin (32 points).

Re-gripping offer...
With the winter season fast approaching, what better time to look at your grips and how they might not be helping your game? For the rest of October we have a fantastic offer for you, so why not pop in for a FREE grip analysis and if we think your grips are due an upgrade, we will upgrade all your wood grips completely FREE when you purchase a full set of iron re-grips (minimum quantity applies). Have a look at why your grips might not be helping your game...
Why Re-grip?
Grips are made of materials that age and wear as a function of time. Ozone, heat, dirt, and oils from your hands all age your grips and cause the natural degradation of the grip. The traction that a fresh grip provides lets you hold the club lightly without the subconscious fear of losing the club during your swing. This relaxed state promotes proper swing mechanics and wrist action. While a worn grip causes you to grasp the club tighter, causing arm and wrist tension that inhibits proper swing mechanics.
How often to Re-grip?
As a rule of thumb, you should re-grip once every year. Regardless of whether you play golf every day or only twice a year, ozone, heat, dirt, and oils are constantly at work breaking down the materials that make up your grips. Granted, frequent play and personal preference may dictate re-gripping sooner, but normally there's enough degradation of the material after a year to warrant fresh grips. Keep in mind that grips lose a significant amount of their original feel long before they become hard and glazed over. Because it happens slowly over time, most golfers fail to notice it. That's important to remember because just a tiny, imperceptible slip at contact will be magnified to many yards by the time the ball reaches its target. Many people find that getting in the routine of re-gripping every spring as the golf season "officially" begins is the easiest way to remember.
