Hello golfers,
If you are a golf fan like me, I am sure you have been impressed by not only the golf, but the golf coverage that was on offer over the past week!
Firstly, a huge congratulations must go to Sky television for their dedicated Open Championship channel and their brand new Swing Zone from the range, their over head cameras on the "postage stamp" and the ball tracer with almost every shot that was hit. On the rare occasion that there wasn't any ball tracer I realised how boring watching golf must be for the non-golfer.
Sunday afternoon's golf viewing is already being billed as potentially the best head-to-head finale there has ever been. It's not often that trailing by one and then shooting 65 in the final round ends up with you finishing three shots behind the leader, but that's exactly what happened to poor Phil Mickelson. I was glued to the TV on Sunday watching Henrik Stenson match everything and more that Phil had to throw at him. I for one certainly got the bug again after watching that and I have already been out trying to hit my 3-wood as hard as Henrik does!
Unfortunately, the Scottish summer was the only loser over the weekend, with Claude Harmon being filmed as saying "I can't understand why you don't see the sun for days at a time in Scotland." He seems to have forgotten his time teaching at Braid Hills only 10 years ago... fingers crossed for us the sunshine returns again this week and we have a strong finish to the summer!
Open Sweepstake
We have of course been running our Open Sweepstake over the last two weeks, and more important than the main event itself, our three winners can now be announced;
- First place - Jim Hannan - ProQuip waterproof suit.
- Second place - Calum Grant - Nike polo shirt.
- Third place - Linda Tucker - One dozen Titleist Pro V1 balls.
Well done to all the winners, I think Jim is the only person in the country praying for more rain…
Young Masters Golf
After the success of our first junior term of 2016, I now have details of term two for all your budding junior golfers out there. The exciting Young Masters Golf programme is one of the strongest, progressive and exciting learning experiences for any young golfer and our registration has opened again now. The programme has been designed by a group of PGA Golf Professionals with the idea of taking complete beginners (aged six and above) and taking them right through to competing on the golf course. I have been delivering this programme for over 12 years now with content improving all the time, with YMG you'll discover all the different shots you will need to know and how to play them, as well learning all about the etiquette and rules required to be on the course. We had 13 young golfers progress through level one (cadets), just before the school summer holidays and registration for Cadets and Cadets Two is open now, if you would like to book yourself or a child into the next stage please click here.
Tee Signage Advertising
You may have seen my plea to you all for some support towards my new of updated tee signage for OUR course. I am sure that a lot of you out there have noticed that our current on course signage is looking a little tired and for visiting parties and guests this of course doesn't look great! I have been working away in the background personally contacting over 100 local businesses and now I am asking for your support. You may be a member of one of our internal club sweeps, you may have a local business or you may simply want to offer a donation to the club, well for as little as £250 you could make a huge contribution towards tidying up the course signage. I am sure you can agree that these signs are a great way to get your business noticed with over 14,000 rounds of golf being played here at Linlithgow every year. Everyone needs to see the layout of the hole, they could also be seeing your message as well. I for one will be doing my bit! For more information, please click here.
Linlithgow Golf Club Silloth
As most of you know, the Silloth event is our main event for you, the members at LGC, to invite your friends along for the day. We have £2,000 worth of prizes to give away for only £7.50 per player entry money, this year's event runs on Saturday, 30 July. Act fast to avoid disappointment!

Junior Blue Tee Texas Scramble Event
We have a junior blue tee event running again this Sunday, the tee will be closed from 5pm until approx 6.30 pm and the shop will close at 4.45pm. The event is open to any junior golfer (member or non-member who has any connection with the club at all; father, auntie, grandfather etc). Ideally the children will be at least six years old and played a little golf. The event is all about fun whilst gaining some on-course experience and meeting a few other children at the same level. If you would like to know any more information please click here, failing that please come along on Sunday evening!
New for Old...
We have great offer running in the shop this month. For a limited time only I'm offering a Shirt Amnesty and giving you £10 for any old shirt that you have lurking at the back of the wardrobe. We have a great selection of shirts from Nike, FootJoy and Glenmuir for you to choose from. Here's how it works:
Simply find an old shirt - no matter what the condition (please no smelly ones).
Put it in the amnesty box in the shop.
Choose a new shirt from our display.
I will then knock £10 OFF the price.
All the shirts collected will be sent off to a charity shop once the promotion has finished. Pop in to see our full ranges and take advantage of this great offer.
Srixon Anniversary Ball Deal
We have some great deals on balls at present. You may have seen in the press that Srixon are running a promotion where you can purchase a dozen AD333 balls and get a sleeve of AD333 Tour for FREE. As an added incentive, there are certain packs that contain a ball with a number 10 stamped on it. If you are lucky enough to find one of these balls you could win either £10,000, a golf holiday, a year supply of AD333 golf balls or any other of the hundreds of prizes on offer.
