Hello golfers,
Well what a week that has been! With the fantastic weather we have had an increased footfall around the club and course massively over the past week. This of course brings a real buzz at the same time, it's been great to see so many burnt foreheads and chalk white legs. It reminded me I need to find a sun tan lotion supplier for our "Hottest summer in 40 years". Our Open Event was a big success on Saturday, the Junior Championship is underway, the gent's team continue on their fantastic run and even your very own Club Pro got a little run of tournaments going over the weekend.
Gena MacKinnon Open
Saturday saw our annual Gent's Open event take place with visitors from all around the county visiting. The feedback from the course was absolutely brilliant with a huge number of guests taking the time to pop back into the shop to say how much they had enjoyed their round. The new bunkers and the greens getting the most positive feedback, which just goes to show how successful our winter maintenance programme has been for another year.
Junior Update
This season, myself and my team are making a big push with all things juniors. As we all know, the children are the future of our club and unfortunately numbers have been dwindling over the last few years. Well, things have changed already after a successful Easter Junior Camp, a positive Young Masters Golf start and a new Junior Membership Category introduced at the back end of last year. I am thrilled to tell you that last Friday we recited the largest turnout for any Junior Event since I arrived at the club 15 months ago. With the normal Junior Medal attendance of 6/7 (in two cases last year we had zero), last Friday saw a total of 18 children take part. The most positive aspect of all was the number of younger children playing along trying to get themselves a handicap in place for the start of the summer holidays.
Kenny's comeback...
A bit more surprisingly, I myself made another small step back in the right direction to playing more competitive golf. At the start of May I entered approximately 12 events to play on the Scottish PGA circuit (Tartan Tour) for the coming season. The normal entry conditions are that most Professionals will get accepted to one out of three events entered. My aim was to try and compete in the Pro-Ams around my workplace and home and for whatever reason I found myself accepted into the first three Pro-Ams that I entered. All three ran on consecutive days Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which meant I was in work very early and leaving very late each side of the Pro-Ams. I fancied that this was the first time I had played competitive golf three days on the trot for 8 years, which I have to admit was good fun. My scores for each venue were as follows:
- Friday - West Lothian +1 - 18th place
- Saturday - Bathgate +1 - 15th place
- Sunday - Bishopbriggs -2 - 9th place
Nothing too embarrassing... this time!
Professional's Day
My second Professional's Day at Linlithgow GC is just around the corner and will be taking place on Saturday, 2 July this year, please watch out for details over the next few weeks as this event is sure to be a complete sell out. Last year we had over 210 players and fingers crossed the weather will hold up for us. The sign-ups will not go onto BRS and the pro shop team will take all bookings. With visitors arriving from all over the country, this could be a great opportunity to advertise your business to our guests. For more information, please click here.
