Hello golfers,

It's over, it's over!

Yes that's right, our dreaded maintenance week is over and it's time for you to all start coming back to play golf again, we missed you last week.

Pros news

Wilson Fitting Centre Visit

On Tuesday this week, Mark and I had the opportunity to escape the shop and head down to Ayr to visit Wilson Staff HQ. The main purpose of the day was to learn all things Wilson. Whilst there, Mark also managed to get himself fitted for some new clubs as well as getting 18 holes in at the outstanding Glasgow Gailes (don't tell my wife). We were invited by our Wilson Sales Manager Drew Parsons (I told you I would make you famous this week Drew) and Fitting Expert Andy.

It was a pleasure to be taken round the factory and watch the hard work that goes into building thousands of golf clubs each week. I must admit I learned a lot about the products and building processes while also watching another club fitter work his magic. Wilson have been a stand-out performer with a lot of my customers this year and it was amazing to learn more about the amazing products that they offer.

I am pleased to tell you all that Drew and his team have extended the invite to all of you too. If you would like to know more about ANY Wilson product and you would like the chance to go down to visit the HQ please click here and I will arrange a fitting as well as drive you down for the day.

As mentioned we did play golf at Glasgow Gailes just to finish the day off. I would like to thank Drew and Mark for putting up a bit of a challenge on the day but sometimes it doesn't matter how well you play, others just play a little better. Not even Mark's fist pump on the 15th green could put us off, I bet he regretted that when we shock hands on the 17th...

Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Golf Day Challenge

Let me start by saying sorry to all of you that seemed to have choked on your dinner around 6.30pm last Thursday night, yes that was my ugly mug that turned up on your TV. I'm sorry it wasn't after the 9pm watershed!

Myself and some friends have decided to take on the "Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Golf Day" Challenge. The challenge entails that we complete four rounds of golf all in one day... easy I hear you say! Well to make things a little harder we are also going to try this particular task at two different golf clubs. Venue one is our very own Linlithgow GC and the second is down at Kingsfield Golf Centre and the date of the challenge is Friday, 20 May.

The friends in question are three of my closest friends who happen to be a little better known than myself particularly in the world of football. Stephen McManus, Stephen Pearson and David Clarkson are all Professional Footballers currently playing at Motherwell FC and they have very kindly agreed to support me with this challenge. This particular charity is very close to most people's heart as it is predicted that one in three of us will be affected with Cancer at some point in our lives. In my case, I unfortunately lost my Mum to Cancer exactly five years ago and since then I have tried to do a few different fundraisers to raise awareness and some much needed funding!

Last Thursday we got together at Bothwell Castle GC on the outskirts of Glasgow along with a lot of the Scottish football and golf press as well as our good friend, Ryder Cup player Stephen Gallacher. Stephen, as most of you know, represents Kingsfield GC and he very kindly has helped us out with our charity bid.

Now I will be the first to admit it, the cameras weren't really there to see me in particular, but I did manage to sneak my ugly mug into the limelight for my five minutes of fame... All kidding and joking aside the exposure created was totally amazing and got our campaign off to a bang. We even managed to get Linlithgow GC a mention and the story went live onto Sky Sports news as well as the ITV and BBC news that night. The story has also featured online and across various newspapers over the last few days. If you would like to see some of them please click on the following links.

Daily Mail - Sky Sports.

Thank you in advance to all of you that have already donated. For anyone else, we have set up a simple Just Giving page, click here to visit. If you would like to become one of our corporate sponsors for the day please click here for more details. I may also be needing a caddy at some point!

I have used this particular programme at a number of different clubs in the past and in particular in Dubai where we had over 500 children attending weekly classes. I can tell you from experience this is a tremendous programme that offers the lot. With over seven different levels to be completed each and every child will find a challenge to motivate them.
